 Zeb Atlas

The Male Body as Art
Zeb (Andy Bick) began modeling for fitness and health magazines in the early 1990's, thanks to his powerhouse body getting noticed by the right people at bodybuilding shows.  Nude modeling and erotica followed.

Poolside Zeb

Zeb Atlas took the time to pose for Playgirl's online magazine and thankfully we have these nice photos of him sporting a healthy hard-on as he shows off by the pool.  Everyone may not be a fan of body builders but most can probably agree that if one's lucky enough to own a fancy house with a beautiful swimming pool, having a handsome muscular hunk hanging around it adds to the ambiance.
In contrast to the photos above, Zeb did more than just pose solo alongside a pool when he paired up with popular porn bottom Christopher Daniels for Zeb's own website.  Chris is a pro at putting dicks in his butt and equally skilled at gobbling them down his throat, and has worked with lots of top cocks in the business.  It's reported that Chris actually started in porn when Atlas was filming his movie The Boyfriend in Las Vegas in fall of 2010.  The story goes that one of Zeb's models didn't show up and he needed a replacement.  Chris said yes, and a cock-hungry porn bottom star was born that same day.
In the Atlas flick that these sample photos are from, Christopher works well in the nicely-filmed poolside smut, complete with sunglasses. There's Chris licking Zeb's balls as Atlas towers above him, Chris sucking on the muscle man's meat as Zeb relaxes in the wicker chaise lounge, and Chris getting screwed in several positions by Zeb in the warm sunshine.  If you notice, Zeb appears to be tattooed by this time in his career.

Basic Plumbing (part four)

It looks like Mr. Plumber has drenched his clothes in all the right places while working on Jim's pipes, which is probably as good of an excuse as any in the world of smut for him to strip down and expose his nicely firm chest and impressive bush.  That cock is uncontrollable as it flops about wildly in the air.  Jim's instincts kicked in as he dropped to his knees.  Whatever could happen next?  Please stay tuned.

1980 Basic Plumbing (part two)

Living the Southern California Dream in the 1980's.  The location for this photo shoot looks terrific.
Lots of men just seem to have a natural talent when it comes to fixing things.  Lots of other men don't.  In part two of our series, we see that our shower stud has put on his robe and gone outside to see what he can do to fix his pipes at the source of the problem.  When that doesn't do the job, he picks up the phone and calls for support: a professional to fix his pipes--the handy dandy plumber.

There's some nice photo editing going on with this magazine.  The inclusion of inset pictures and close-ups, such as the model's hand on the railing, may not be sexual in nature but they certainly lend themselves to telling a more complete fantasy story.

For decades in both straight and gay erotica, the professional plumber has been a tried and true storyline vehicle for introducing the cock to its intended sucker.  Other common fields of employment that have lead themselves to casual fuckings in porn over the past 100 years have included the milkman, the landlord, the pizza delivery boy, the phone repairman (who morphed into the cable repair guy as home electronics changed), and the carpet layer.  But propbably none have had as many inside jokes as the plumber working/laying/cleaning pipes.

It may be a porn cliche but it works.  Consider Josman's great illustrative series The Plumber where a hunky older plumber comes to fix a leak and discovers the younger adult son home alone.  It's a great storyline to bring them together.  By the time the plumber leaves, the son's tushy is no longer a virgin.  The faucet gets fixed, too!

As our storyline progresses, we get to know that our shower stud is named Jim Kennnedy.

Jim is calling the plumber via a 1980's telephone.  Fashion may change.  Technology may change.  The desire for sex always stays the same.
Luckily for Jim, a friend had already given him a business card listing a plumber who was the "best in the business for cleaning out your pipes" according to his friend. The magazine goes on to have a little fun with the storyline and with what we all know is about to happen once the plumber arrives:"Jim knew his pipes were in such bad shape that they were to take a lot of work...It had been much too long since anyone had given them a good going over."  Indeed, it sounds like Jim is about to get a real good 'going over'.
Please stay tuned all this month for more updates on Jim and his pipes.

The ruggedly debonair gentlemen that are often found in Mr. Prevot's works are busy exploring the excitement of life and the seduction of the male body.  Strong wide shoulders and square jaws flow naturally down to muscled buttocks and throbbing erections ready to explode with excitement.  It's a world of alley speakeasy bars, cuff links on crisp starched shirts, and sexual desires.

For many of his many fans, Benoit has taken the classic homoerotic undertones of J.C. Leyendecker's vintage work and opened the closet door for all to take a voyeur's look inside at the sexual desires and pleasures these men enjoy.

Included in this exciting world of sex was the notorious culture of Harlem drag balls in New York. Between roughly 1919 and 1935, an artistic movement that would come to be known as the "Harlem Renaissance" transformed the culture of uptown Manhattan not only as a result of its establishing new trends in black literature, music and politics but also for its scandalous night life and party culture.  The lavish Harlem drag balls drew white men to come drinking and enjoy the carnivalesque parties where racial taboos were broken through sexual and gender nonconformity.

1970's Gay Smut-O-Rama! Sons of Satan

Handsome Jonathan Trent goes in search of his missing brother Clark in this vampire horror/gay sex movie.  So where does he look for his brother?  Naturally, at the spooky old mansion that is occupied by the mysterious Mr. Natas and his collection of hot male servants.  But our blonde hero doesn't get anywhere after the servants open the doors.  Jonathan has a sneaky hunch that something is going on inside that house, and that his brother may be involved, and he's right!  We the audience get to discover that his brother Clark is indeed inside the mansion (of course) and he's preparing for the "hour of exchange" when dicks meet throats, resulting in a fancy silver cup being filled with sperm from all the servant dudes. They deliver their cum cocktail to the naked vampire Mr. Natas.  Both blood and seamen are the fluids of human life and it turns out that this vampire likes 'em both.
Our hero Jonathan sneaks back into the house and discovers his brother in a bedroom after being freshly milked for his sperm and freshly-screwed by the vampire Natas.  The thought of his poor brother taking a vampire's nasty dick in his rear is enough to get Johnny really upset!  Only suddenly, Johnny has himself to worry about, as they capture him.  Johnny gets some classic 1970's bondage treatment before the Sons of Satan inititate him into the "hour of exchange" cock sucking and to his horror--his brother is one of them!  After they fill the silver cup, Natas arrives and then promptly gives Johnny a good screw.  SPOILER ALERT! The last scene is a delivery guy who arrives at the old house and the door is opened by---converted servant/slave Johnny!
The Sons of Satan script is so darn bad that it's fun. Their plastic vampire teeth appear to be the Halloween costume type that stores sell three-to-a-pack (back then they were dime stores and today at dollar stores) and the actors have a problem keeping the fangs in place.  Aside from classic 1970's men having sex with one another, this movie doesn't really have anything going for it, other than it was directed by Tom De Simone who went on to make mainstream movies like 1981's Hell Night. The actors are Ned Burke, Carl Ford, Bill North, Lee LeMay and Tom Paine.  Most of this cast had already worked together in the 1972 gay smut film Chained, which was also directed by Simone (using the name Lancer Brooks).

Federico Garcia Lorca

It's a shame that so many people have never heard of him.  Many may not be aware of Federico, but this legendary gay Spanish poet and playwright went to college with Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí.    He had a steamy affair (how sexual it was remains in question) with Dalí.   In addition to poems, he wrote plays like Blood Wedding and The House of Bernarda Alba.  Dalí said about Federico that  "He was homosexual, as everyone knows, and madly in love with me. He tried to screw me twice .... I was extremely annoyed, because I wasn’t homosexual, and I wasn’t interested in giving in. Besides, it hurts. So nothing came of it. But I felt awfully flattered vis-à-vis the prestige. Deep down I felt that he was a great poet and that I owe him a tiny bit of the Divine Dalí's asshole. He eventually bagged a young girl, and she replaced me in the sacrifice. Failing to get me to put my ass at his disposal, he swore that the girl’s sacrifice was matched by his own: it was the first time he had ever slept with a woman."  There's so much about Dali's statement that contradicts itself, but they belong to him and not Federico.
Mr. Lorca suffered severe depression and guilt about being a man who loved other men, which seems to have become especially intense with reagrds to casual encounters with strangers throughout his life.  Many en seemed to be attracted to him, .  Many describe him as being very charismatic in person, something that photographs of him aren't able to fully capture. He also had the physical attractiveness to draw sexual attention to himself.
Controversy still remains about the motives and details of Lorca's murder. While not considered likely by most historians, some believe that it was his gay personal life that was the reason for his death instead of his politics and the govenment.  It's believed that he died in 1936 when soldiers dragged him into a field, shot him and tossed his body into an unmarked grave.  Franco's government tried to obliterate Lorca's memory.  His books were prohibited, his name forbidden.  His poetry has been translated into a dozen languages and his name is known worldwide.
Lorca and Dalí

Death in Granada was a 1996 movie about his life.  In the film, a journalist starts an investigation into the disappearance of poet and political agitator, Garcia Lorca, who disappeared in the early days of the Spanish Civil War in the the 1930's. Then came the film Little Ashes,a 2008 Spanish-Britis film.

Asshole Buddies Special featured 100 pages of all-color fun between some hairy and handsome gents.  With stars like Nick Rodgers, J.W. King, Clay Russel, Steve York, Leo Ford, and Lee Brubaker it certainly had plenty of talent to go around.

Above: Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place! That looks to be none other than famed cockmaster Nick Rodgers doing a fine job of giving his hiking buddy a thick hard bone.  Take Nick's dick!

Since this is all-color (earlier publications were mostly black and white because color was still very costly), looks to be pre-condom, and based upon the stars included, our guess is that this was an early 1980's release.

Mark Jennings

Mark Jennings remains an adult entertainment star decades after his final performance, and just one look at the photo above helps to explain why.  The legendary story of his entrance into smut goes that a young Mark (who was reportedly born in 1966) lived in Michigan and enjoyed hockey among other sports.  Getting friendly-jibed by his buddies in the locker room showers about the big horse meat between his legs, he took advantage of his manly assets by going to work hustling his cock in smut during the mid 1980's.  While there's very little confirmed biography existing about him, it's widely speculated that Mark was probably straight or bisexual; however Mark's actual sexuality remains unknown.  Standing 5'11" with green eyes and a solid 150 pounds, he had a masculine, "freshly scrubbed" attractive face.
It's Mark work in both gay and bisexual films that made him a top box office draw.  There was a Dan Parks (in 1984 he preformed in The All-American Man) prior to Mark Jennings. Indeed, he became a star twice--as both Dan Parks and Mark Jennings, largely performing in both gay and bisexual genres with a few straight roles.

Multiple stage names are common with male sex performers, but what's unique for that era is that he eventually began to use "Mark Jennings" for bisexual, straight and gay work.
Dan Parks (aka Mark Jennings)
Not all types of bisexual porn are viewed in the same way in our modern society.  'Female-on-female' bisexual porn (which includes a man at some point in the picture) has enjoyed a long history of commercial success.  Many straight men (who purchase most porn) want to see this type of action and there's been no social stigma associated with men liking to look at naked women, especially when the women having sex together are also craving a stud to join in the party as well.
Mark's ample manhood being enjoyed by a female friend
It's when there are two men getting it on, sharing one female, where things get uncomfortable for many self-identified straight men.   'Male-on-male' bisexual porn has often been thought of as an offshoot of gay smut, and oftentimes seen as just a cover for closeted gay men.  Unfortunately, this perception of the masculine bisexual male has often been reinforced in bisexual gay smut itself, thanks to the miscasting of effeminate performers in roles where they are playing masculine parts for which they are just not believable.

Looks like this lucky girl gets to polish the Jennings family jewels

All of this helps to explain the popularity of a model like Mark Jennings, who effectively performs in both the straight and gay sex scenes.  In his work with other males, he's usually cast as a straight guy being orally serviced before penetrating his 10.5 inch penis deep into his partner (however, he did perform as a bottom as well).  In his work with women, he equally seems to be enjoying himself.
Factor in his large cock and a star is born, no matter who he is fucking. Fans of him performing as Dan Parks followed Mark over to bisexual smut.

Mark Jennings performance in 1985's Best Friends with Jeff Cameron became a hit.  Reviewers noted that the situations and activities were much more believable than most male bisexual porn.  Cameron, who had real chemistry with Jennings, would not return Mark Reynolds’ sequel, Best Friends 2 in 1988.  As an interesting side note, Jeff Cameron appears to have only ever been featured in Best Friends and then retired from the industry.

Mark appeared in more than 28 adult films. Unknown is what happened to Mark after he left the business.  Please stay tuned for part two.

Hello there, Mr. October!

One of the most-requested things that I've heard from VGMH friends over the last few years
relates to the month of October and Halloween, and specifically wishes to see some of our previous special stories and the haunted logos, which progress in a ghoulish delight over time during the month and climax on October 31st with  smut we don't ever show otherwise.  This is also the anniversary month of our little blog here, and I'm happy to be able to fulfill such requests for blasts from the past, and thank you for asking.  I have not forgotten that we came to this place after another site had made it clear that queers like us were not welcome any longer with them.  We all keep pushing on no matter what, and you have raised me and I thank you.

But back to more important things...What little clothing Mr. October's wearing is certainly stylish for the period. He seems in very serious concentration, and maybe it's just me, but that jack-o-lantern's one eye opening seems downright naughty and nice at the same time. As with other months in this vintage calendar, we see the mysterious hand (notice the bird tattoo) offering suggestions of what perhaps is yet to come for our model?

Dom (his real name was Dom Orejudos was) was 20 years old when he began using the name Etienne, when his work was published for the first time in 1953's "Tomorrow's Man" magazine, issue #8.

Born in Chicago on July 1st, 1933, Etienne was a dancer and choreographer with the Illinois Ballet Company for 15 years. In addition, he was a very respected businessman, famous for his male physique studies which became internationally known. He was the recipient of three National Endowment for the Arts grants and was nominated/received three Emmy Awards.
His artwork is understandably sometimes confused with that of Tom of Finland. Both men definitely had an appreciation for very masculine guys and both enjoyed creating intense fantasy worlds. It's been reported that both artists knew one another and liked and respected one another's work. We'll take a look at more of his work in the future.

One of Etienne's most-favored artistic styles was to show a charismatic character becoming the sexual brunt of a masculine joke, usually at the mercy of other men surrounding him. To some, his work pushes the envelope of aggressive machismo sex that's sometimes depicted, which the artist himself once described as trying to capture man's "fears, needs, and unapologetic raw power."  He died of AIDS complications in 1991.
EXTRA TREAT!
Some of the adult games and sports that men like to play together can be confusing to onlookers who don't quite understand the rules of play.  It looks like this jock stayed in the locker room a little too long after the game, and now he's about to take one for the team and his own enjoyment (that strapped ass looks like it's been in this accommodating penetration position before).  As always, Etienne can't resist adding a bit of fun irony---A jockster in white socks is about to get a beefy fist 'rammed'up his tight ass while being constrained on a table marked PROPERTY OF RAMS.

Mr. Reed posed for Don Whitman's Western Photography Guild during the 1960's. A former U.S. Navy lieutenant, Don began his business in Denver, Colorado in 1947. Don founded the Mr. Colorado bodybuilding competition which was a great way to meet potential models. While the outdoor Rocky Mountains served as a stage set for the majority of his photographs, he also captured the masculinity of men in traditional studio settings, such as these with Kim Reed. Kim had the clean cut 'next door' young man look that made him a favorite for many.

Hollywood Star Franklin Pangborn

For his contributions to motion pictures, Pangborn has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1500 Vine Street.  Sadly, not many people recognize his name.  He served in World War I and worked on Broadway before going into silent movies starting around 1926.  He was a talented actor and versitle but became favored for his comedic roles.  Mack Sennett used him in many shorts.  His facial expressions and mannerisms didn't quite classify him in the realm of somewhat effiminate male characters that film historians would later call "sissy" parts, but he was often close.  His uptight characters were often authority figures that ultimately were turned on their behinds, much to the delight of the audience.
Pangborn with a famous Tarzan
It's reported that  W.C. Fields was a great fan of him which is why he used him in several movies (including 1940s The Bank Dick), as well as working with Frank Capra, Gregory La Cava, and Preston Sturges.  In 1942 he worked in.

Yet Pangborn's usual stock of characters could fit drama as well. Actually, in Hero his coordinator Now, Voyager as the cruise tourist director with legendary Bette Davis.  As the talent of the silent era slipped into the shadows of Hollywood while television was in its infacncy, he used his connections and skills to work often on the little screen.

It was reported that Pangborn lived with his mother and his "occasional boyfriend.  He passed away on July 20, 1958

Brokeback Mountain

Many film historians have suggested that it will take decades before the true impact of Brokeback Mountain upon society can be analyzed and put into its proper context.  2005’s Brokeback Mountain was nominated for eight Academy Awards, the most nominations given out at the 78th Academy Awards.  The movie eventually won three categories: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score.  In addition, Brokeback Mountain was honored with Best Picture and Best Director awards by the British Academy of Film and Television, four Golden Globes, and many others accolades.  But perhaps its lasting achievement will not be remembered by the awards that it received but rather in how this movie helped to accelerate changes in mainstream society’s attitudes towards the “unseen” gay population living all around them; changes that would eventually include open acceptance into the military and laws to legally marry in several states.

Without pandering to tired old stereotypes, Brokeback Mountain depicts the complex and deep love between two masculine cowboys over the course of their lives.  It’s set in the American West between 1963 and 1983.  What makes the movie truly unique is that the story is not about gay men fighting against specific discrimination or wrongful acts that have happened against them, as other gay-related movie themes have often portrayed.   This is a personal love story.  And it’s a tragic love story, because we the audience witness firsthand how they have been conditioned by society, beginning as little boys, to treat their love as something shameful that is to be hidden.  We see that these two men were not out protesting to change the world.  They were not in court trying to avenge wrongful actions from employers.  These two quiet-living people were trying to do what a homophobic society demanded of them in order to fit in: pretend that their love didn’t exist, and the high cost this lie demanded upon many lives.  To drive home the point, the audience learns that one of them never forgot childhood memories of a man who was murdered because he was gay and his recollections of the lack of sympathy about this man’s violent death.  Secretly (and not so secretly to those closest to them) they suffered all of their lives.
Whether intentional or not, the film does not demand that the two leading men self-define their relationship (or their sexuality) so that the audience can then comfortably detach in order to judge them.   As British reviewer Matthew E. Crossnaught pondered in relation to the movie’s two masculine characters and their complicated relationship: “How many married men, like me, have had at least one time [with another man], or have known or suspected such secrets  about those that we love?”  Once the film began to become popular with audiences and more theatres began to show it, the conservative right began turning up their assault on the movie in an attempt to discourage its acceptance and sympathetic storyline.

On the pages of the Blue Boy magazine...

First published in California in 1975, the magazine was originally advertised in the 1970's as a gay version of Playboy or Penthouse. In addition to sexy nude guys, every issue typically included articles about male fashions, male sex, television and film reviews, and the secrets of finding that true male love. It would also often have some good articles regarding politics, homophobia, and gay rights. The magazine gained a whole new audience when Cyndi Lauper mentioned the magazine by name in the first lines of her 1984 song "She Bop." Lauper has stated that finding a copy of Blueboy lying around in the recording studio provided the impetus for writing "She Bop" song in the first place.  Here we get to enjoy Rick, who was both the cover model and centerfold for the March 1981 issue.

Rick (or Rich) Koch made news with Advocate Men in March 1998 and the Torso in April of the same year.  This Colt Studios studhas been quoted as saying"My first time posing nude was for Jim French in '95, and I was in the Colt Calendars. Before that, I was dancing across the country with the troupe First Class Male, and then went on to Chippendales in '96. One of my dancer friends who's also a Colt model turned my name over to Jim. Beside Jim, Maxx Studio is the only other time I've been photographed."  As one VGMH follower wrote to me"I didn't know his name but I knew his fine hairy bo was what I liked and I've loved hairy chested guys ever since."  Rick also has been reported as performing in two softcorevideos for Campfire Productions, America's Hunkiest Home Videos 8 and Hunk Boat 2: Naked Ski School.   We'll leave him with yet one more pic from what is probably his most famous photo set--The Cop-and very rock hard at that.

In the 1960s and carrying over into the early 1970s, one of the more popular ways to enjoy looking at photographs of naked men was via 'nudist' or 'natural' magazines.  There had been some publications prior to this time period, but by the mid-1960's nudist magazines were able to display male and female nudity without fear of strict government reprisal, thanks to court decisions.   Among the decisions, courts had reasoned that individuals could not be convicted of obscenity charges unless the materials depicted “patently offensive hard core sexual conduct.” This meant that many materials dealing with nudity, including magazines, did not qualify as legally obscene.
Health, vitality, fitness, and relative innocence (the models were typically posed in situations that were non-sexual in nature where the only thing missing was clothing) were the hallmarks of most nudity magazines during this period.  And while the vast majority of the publications that flourished in this window (between 1950s censorship and explicit hardcore pornography later in the 1970s) was of nude frolicking females, there were also plenty of images including handsome naked men showing their junk. Take for example the cover image for the naturist magazine HUMANA (issue 15, 1967).  The models may have been straight, but it's safe to assume that more than a few of the orders that flowed in for these types of publications were from gay men who ignored the ladies and concentrated on the gents.  The images in many instances certainly seemed to focus as much on the man as the lady, which makes VGMH aficionados very happy indeed.
